Disaster Preparedness

September 1 is 防災の日(Bosai no Hi), the anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 and a day to renew preparations for the next disaster. Drills are held throughout the country. Having participated in exercises in the morning, Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda declared his intention to resign his post at 10:00 pm. It is about one year since he took over for former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who resigned after just under one year in office. So goes the revolving door of the Japanese prime ministership.
